“Paper Planes” M.I.A. – Drum Lesson

by

Here’s my tutorial on this great two bar linear beat used in the M.I.A. song “Paper Planes!” Love this song and I have so much fun playing it as a linear groove. Linear drumming is when no two limbs overlap on top of each other, and never causes a compound note. By not playing two notes at the same time it causes the beat to flow in a unique way. This technique is used often in Fusion music. Players such as; Steve Gadd, Terry Bozzio and Dennis Chambers are just a few of the many top notch drummers who demonstrated this technique in well known songs.

Enjoy “Paper Planes!”

“Green Onions” Booker T and the MG’s – Drum Lesson

by

“Green Onions” by Booker T and the MG’s  is an easy groove drums! Al Jackson Jr was the drummer and he kept it simple, clean and memorable. It’s just quarter notes on the Ride Cymbal, “2” and “4” on the Snare and Hi-Hat(left foot). Finally an “1′  “ah 3” on the Bass Drum. Enjoy!
