“Paper Planes” M.I.A. – Drum Lesson

Here’s my tutorial on this great two bar linear beat used in the M.I.A. song “Paper Planes!” Love this song and I have so much fun playing it as a linear groove. Linear drumming is when no two limbs overlap on top of each other, and never causes a compound note. By not playing two notes at the same time it causes the beat to flow in a unique way. This technique is used often in Fusion music. Players such as; Steve Gadd, Terry Bozzio and Dennis Chambers are just a few of the many top notch drummers who demonstrated this technique in well known songs.

Enjoy “Paper Planes!”
